Taste the Rainbow

Yes, I open with a shameless fruit-flavored candy reference.

June is Pride Month, so I felt I needed to fit a rainbow in there, somewhere. I hope your June is full of sweetness, rainbows, and happily-ever-after. As for me, my husband and I planned a trip to sunny Florida, where there happens to be a karate seminar heโ€™s attending. While heโ€™s getting pummeled by equally dedicated martial artists, I intend to explore the beaches and get some writing done. Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ll have some pretty Atlantic-side beach photos to share once we return. Although I wouldnโ€™t want to live thereโ€”Iโ€™m a Wisconsin girl at heartโ€”Florida is a lovely place to visit.

On a sorrowful note, we recently lost my father-in-law. He lived a good, long life and we all had the opportunity to say good-bye to him before he passed. He was a wonderful father to my husband, grandfather to my two boys. Heโ€™ll be greatly missed by all who knew him. Iโ€™ll definitely miss hearing his funny boy-scout stories. No worries; my mother-in-law has an excellent support network in our familyโ€”my husband is the youngest of four siblings who are all helping outโ€”and weโ€™re all holding up pretty well.

Iโ€™m still plugging away on Wyldling Trials. My critique group provides fantastic feedback, so I should have an even better story for you by the time itโ€™s published this Autumn! The goal is to have revisions completed by the beginning of August. The featured art above is a hint about what happens in the next part Iโ€™m revising.

Adventures in Author-land

Recently, I was interviewed by Adam Gaffen, science fiction author extraordinaire! His website is really snazzy; you should go check it out… after you read the interview, of course! https://www.cassidychronicles.com/post/adam-interviews-a-r-grimes

What Iโ€™ve Been Reading

The Kingโ€™s Curse by J.F. Rogers

This one just came out a few days ago and itโ€™s only $0.99 on Amazon. I highly recommend reading this book. For one thing, itโ€™s a great portal fantasy about a young woman of the Christian faith who goes on an amazing adventure and discovers incredible things about herself. For another, thereโ€™s a very cute and friendly dragon in it. The Ariboslia trilogy, which precedes this book, introduces the world the main character leaves behind on her journey.

The Kingmaster by C.A. Doehrmann

A cute, entertaining story thatโ€™s accessible for younger readers. There wasnโ€™t a dull moment and the plot included some intriguing twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. I plan on reading the next book in the series as soon as I get through my massive to-be-read list.

Pack by Huckleberry Rahr

Because itโ€™s Pride Month, my report wouldnโ€™t be complete without including this fun LGTBQ shifter urban fantasy. If you enjoy werewolf stories (featuring an LGTBQ cast) with humor and heart about familial love and acceptance, then youโ€™ll love the Jade Stone Chronicles. I helped edit this series, and Iโ€™m always happy to give a shout-out to my friend, Huckle. We’re all looking forward to when the final book, Battlefield, is released in August.

Have you read Wyldling Snare?

If you haven’t – and you love clean fantasy adventure stories – then you should.

A knightโ€™s first duty is to his realm. When another world calls, will he answer? The wrong choice might destroy all he loves.

Apprentice knight Enoch Northward isn’t ready to lead. But when he returns home to find his mentor dead and the heir-apparent missing, he knows he must rise to the challenge.

But the horrifying truth of his guardianโ€™s death and disappearance of his friends leaves the grieving knight with no time to mourn. In search of answers, he ventures into the forbidden forest. There he discovers a portal leading to another world – and a girl who shares his faith and dreams.

The realm hangs in the balance as a mysterious enemy schemes to destroy it, but not all peril comes from the outside. Enoch himself harbors a secret that could destroy all he loves…

King Leonidas demands adoration from all of us peasants.

It really warms my heart to get this kind of feedback

  1. While I hope you have a good time on your trip, I don’t know why anyone would want to go to Florida who didn’t have to, considering their narrow-minded governor’s attitude toward all things reasonable and sensible. You do know that Florida was the first to enact a “Don’t Say Gay” bill, right?
