May Your Month Be Filled With BOOKS

I’m not gonna prevaricate … this month crept up on me really fast and I was not prepared to write anything compelling for this newsletter.

But I do have news to share.

On a joyous note, my brother got married yesterday to a wonderful lady I am so happy is now officially a part of our family. They’ve been together over nine years. The ceremony was tiny and took place in the conifer section of the UW Madison Arboretum! It was totally awesome and a beautiful day, to boot. The weather could not have cooperated better, all things considered.

Recently, I also started a new job working with awesome people who appreciate me. And while I’m enjoying it, I regret that learning all my new responsibilities leaves me with less time to do all the author things. I’m grateful to be employed, really I am, but I wish I could go without sleep and had more time to write!

Tomorrow I’m heading to the Lakefly Writers Conference in Oshkosh WI. If you happen to be in that neck of the woods … lake … then stop on by the book fair on Saturday. I’ll be there with signed copies of Wyldling Snare and Wyldling Trials, ready for whacky author hijinks and discussions about dragons. Or anything, really. I’m more of a listener than a talker, anyway.

I’m so close to finishing Wyldling Armor, which has turned out to be a tricky beast to tame. I’m really excited about it, though, because of the bonus “dragon” I decided to put in the story. And there MIGHT be an octopus. Okay, that’s not a maybe. There WILL be an octopus. Plus various other creatures that may or may not exist on Earth.

But never fear – Although I don’t have much to say this time, I’m not leaving you in the lurch. As always, I have books to share with you, so you will not be lacking in reading material this month.

What I’m Reading Next

It’s May! The month of flowers and somewhat less dubious weather. Or maybe not … this is Wisconsin, after all. In any event, here are some books I’ll be reading soon. They are both clean.

Storm of Magic by Cassie Greutman

This book comes out TOMORROW! It sounds really good and I’m looking forward to reading it.

Something sinister lurks beneath the bright lights of Los Angeles.

Rookie cop Jayla Nofsky thought she’d seen it all. But then a routine patrol spirals into chaos when she encounters a fae, Ghira, opening a portal to Faerie. Ghira’s plan? Bring through her psychotic husband and set him loose on the world.
Jayla destroys the portal, leaving Ghira stranded on Earth, but not powerless. She can control minds, proven when she turns Jayla’s partner against her. For reasons unknown, her ability won’t work on Jayla. Ghira would do anything to reopen the portal, and she only needs one thing. Jayla’s blood. The key to getting Jayla to cooperate is an easy target. Jayla’s three-year-old daughter, Kenzie.

As the line between ally and enemy blurs, Jayla doesn’t know who to trust. Her police captain? A sketchy fae who know so much more about the situation than she does? Her estranged husband?

Jayla’s allies’ loyalties are uncertain, and every choice she makes could be her last. One immune cop against a fae who can control minds—the odds are stacked against her. But she’ll fight. Because if Jayla fails, not just her city, but her daughter will pay the price.

The Orb and the Airship by Jenelle Leanne Schmidt

Airships! The second in the series just came out recently, and this book has been on my TBR list for awhile, so I better get crackin’ on reading this!

A rogue airship captain. An ambitious youth. A clash of powers beyond their imagination.
With scholarships to a prestigious military school, Grayden and Wynn are thirsty for adventure. But the night before they leave, they discover the mysterious Dalmir and his arcane orb in the forsaken tower outside of town. The old man, who seems to have a wealth of knowledge of what came before and yet so little of the now, insists on accompanying them as they travel to the academy.

Meanwhile, all pirate Captain Marik wants is to keep to the skies, take his due, and care for his crew. Then a straightforward pillaging mission on a ship of fresh academy students leads to betrayal from one of his own and an unlikely friendship forged by necessity.

Yet this new alliance stirs up ancient foes and a conflict too terrible to ignore. Despite Grayden’s inexperience and Marik’s skepticism, working together with Dalmir is their only option.
The fate of the world depends on it.

A clean gaslamp fantasy adventure filled with steadfast friendship, brotherhood, twisty politics, and epic airship battles.

Have you read Wyldling Snare?

A knight’s first duty is to his realm. When another world calls, will he answer? The wrong choice might destroy all he loves.

Apprentice knight Enoch Northward isn’t ready to lead. But when he returns home to find his mentor dead and the heir-apparent missing, he knows he must rise to the challenge.

But the horrifying truth of his guardian’s death and disappearance of his friends leaves the grieving knight with no time to mourn. In search of answers, he ventures into the forbidden forest. There he discovers a portal leading to another world – and a girl who shares his faith and dreams.

The realm hangs in the balance as a mysterious enemy schemes to destroy it, but not all peril comes from the outside. Enoch himself harbors a secret that could destroy all he loves…
