Book Festivals and Giveaways – June Edition

Hi, friend! If you’re a new subscriber, then welcome to my newsletter! I’m A.R. Grimes, an indie author of fantasy. If you love reading books and learning new things, then you’re in the “write” place. Ha ha. Okay, moving on …

My summer has been very busy so far. Between learning my new day job, taking care of my family, author events, not to mention scrambling to polish up Wyldling Armor, I’m surprised I have time to sleep. But I know I’ll get through whatever comes – with a little help from my friends and a lot of help from God!

Speaking of “author events,” I recently participated in the Second Chapter of the Kenosha Book Festival, hosted by the independent bookstore Studio Moonfall. These events are always fun because I have a partner in pandemonium and wisecracking hilarity – my good friend and fellow author extraordinaire – Huckleberry Rahr (that’s her with the rainbow hair).

Missed the Kenosha Book Festival? No worries! There’s more coming up this summer. Huckleberry and I’ll both be returning for Chapter Five on August 25th.

Also, I’ll be heading back to Studio Moonfall on June 28th for a Meet the Author event. If you happen to be in the greater Milwaukee, WI area, stop on by between 1 and 4 pm to chat. We can talk about dragons, cats, dogs, octopi … anything, really. While you’re there, be sure to grab a signed copy of Wyldling Snare and Wyldling Trials, if you haven’t already.

If you’re a die-hard introvert and are more into virtual shindigs, then you may be interested in a Facebook group event coming up. Come join The Queens Library (Reader & Author group) on the evening of June 30th. There will be fun games and author-signed book giveaways! My time slot is 7:30-8pm EST (6:30-7pm CST)

Now that you’ve suffered through my update (ha!) you have my permission to kick back and relax with a book and immerse yourself in an enthralling new world. Are you between books? I always have recommendations. If you haven’t already, you can always check out Wyldling Snare. Would you like some other suggestions for good reads? Then keep going …

What’s Out This Month

Hearts of Stone and Steel by Jenelle Schmidt

Release date: June 25th. I read the first book, The Orb and the Airship, and I plan to follow this story for as long as it continues! I would definitely recommend checking out this series.

Treasure Planet meets Firefly in this epic adventure!

This is book 3 of the 5-book Turrim Archive series. And I thought really hard about how to write a blurb for it, but everything I came up with seemed to give far too many spoilers for what had come in the first two books.

A clean, family-friendly gaslamp fantasy, this series contains airship pirates, a military academy, a mysterious wizard, genetic engineering, and as you can probably tell by the cover, this installment might even have a few robots!

The story continues here from where it started in The Orb and the Airship and left off in Mantles of Oak and Iron. The stakes are higher. The characters are in the middles of their arcs. And the adventure is ramping up! Come along for the ride! (But seriously, start at book 1).

Veiled Phoenix by Huckleberry Rahr

Release date: June 14th. Happy Pride Month! This story presents a unique take on phoenixes and the possible political ramifications of having shifters, magic-users and regular folks existing side by side in a contemporary society. Despite the conflict, the narrative remains humorous, uplifting and family-friendly.

Can a secret be kept? Will friends protect friends? A growing prejudice against non-magic users threatens to destroy the peace forged hundreds of years ago.

Ember attends magic school after years of being homeschooled. Often ridiculed for not being great at magic, they shrug it off. Despite what their classmates think, Ember is confident in their abilities. When a school field trip to find midnight herbs reveals Ember’s secrets to those around them, will it destroy years of trust?

Once Ember’s family learns they’ve been outed, it’s time to run. They’ve always moved on … their secrets and safety are more important than where they live.

Meanwhile, there’s a new movement spreading dissension and speaking of a divide between witches and non-magic users. If they stay, they can help those trying to bridge the gap. It’s an old fight Ember’s parents battled in the past. Can Ember convince their family to stay and resurrect peace from the ashes of fear and hate?

Have you read Wyldling Snare?

A knight’s first duty is to his realm. When another world calls, will he answer? The wrong choice might destroy all he loves.

Apprentice knight Enoch Northward isn’t ready to lead. But when he returns home to find his mentor dead and the heir-apparent missing, he knows he must rise to the challenge.

But the horrifying truth of his guardian’s death and disappearance of his friends leaves the grieving knight with no time to mourn. In search of answers, he ventures into the forbidden forest. There he discovers a portal leading to another world – and a girl who shares his faith and dreams.

The realm hangs in the balance as a mysterious enemy schemes to destroy it, but not all peril comes from the outside. Enoch himself harbors a secret that could destroy all he loves…
