I like to write silly haiku poetry while at work. Here is a sampling of my efforts over the past six months, alternating with my amateur flower photography.
I hate limericks
I prefer to write haiku
This is easier
A.R. Grimes
I couldn’t help it, they were so yellow and pretty like sunshine!
THE HAIKU TODAY
IS BY NO MEANS ELOQUENT
OR AT ALL FUNNY

Close-up of a white peony, Georgia O’Keefe style.
EAT PURPLE CABBAGE
IT IS VERY GOOD FOR YOU
UNLIKE MOUNTAIN DEW
ARG
Not a purple cabbage, but a lovely purple iris!
ALICORN PRINCESS
SHOULD BE MY FACEBOOK I.D.
SO MANY PONIES!
ARG
Okay, this is a photo of My Little Pony toys, not flowers. Just thought this would be more appropriate to pair with the haiku. And yes, I do have more than these six ponies in my possession. Pega-sisters unite!
Beautiful sunlight
Let’s blow this Popsicle stand
And all go outside
ARG
It’s a beautiful day…perfect weather to go for a walk on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail.
SOMETHING IN THE AIR
IS MAKING MY HEAD ACHE HERE
I FEEL LIKE BARFING
ARG
Urgh…and then flowers burst out of the toilet?!
FILL EASTER BASKETS
WITH CANDY AND TOYS, BUT KNOW
YOUR REDEEMER LIVES
ARG
Do you see the butterfly?
It’s too nice today
to consider tomorrow’s
forecasted weather
ARG
Her Excellency, Graefin the soot panther definitely agrees.
Too much stuff is bad
Too little of anything
Is also not good
ARG
Confucius say…What the phlox?
Although I claim that
APRIL is the cruelest month,
MAY can be mean, too.
ARG
Yeah, just look at how gloomy it was that day…in May.
NO INTEREST SHOWN
SO TODAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED
GO HOME TO YOUR CAT(S)
ARG
All five of them, in this case. No, these cats are not mine. I was cat-sitting for a friend.
INDUSTRIAL SIZED
HEAVY BALLOONS SLALOMING
ACROSS THE BLUE SKY
ARG
Sorry, kids, no balloons here. Nobody here but us blossoms.
IT’S ALWAYS RAINING
IN THE DARK DEPTHS OF MY SOUL
I NEED SUNSHINE, PLEASE
Google Weather says
That the sun probably will
Peek out of the clouds.
ARG
These are pretty irises.
HOT, STICKY OFFICE
LEADING CAUSE IN CREATING
CRABBY EMPLOYEES
Perfumes can’t cover
Permeating the office
The vile stench of death
me
These peonies are not only lovely but they smell wonderful.
My rule with haiku is to whip one out in less than 2 minutes – usually during my breaks at work – so these were pretty raw and generally silly.
