In Other News

That’s funny. What news? I really don’t have much to say this week, other than I’ve been counting my blessings and making a little progress on Wyldling Armor. Last month for NaNoWriMo, I managed to scribble out 33,097 words. Nope. I didn’t make the 50k goal this time, but at least they didn’t take away my laurels from last year’s triumph. So far in December, I’ve written 3,850 words.

Just keep writing, just keep writing …

I must mention, though, that I’m grateful for my Writer Pals and my friends in the Sun Prairie Writers group. They all are helping me craft the best story I can by making me think about the characters on a deeper level and adding tension to scenes that I wouldn’t have considered on my own.

Wyldling Trials is a better book overall and more exciting to read than it was before my critique team dug their collective claws into it. Um. Sorry. I know that sounds violent, but I did ask them to “rip it to shreds.”

Afterwards, it was my great pleasure to piece everything back together again in a way that made sense. To a certain extent, anyway. Ha! And people seem to be enjoying it! Here are some of the reviews Wyldling Trials received:

It warms the cockles of my heart whenever I see a new review pop up. This is why I leave a rating and review for every indie book I read. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to not only read my work, but to post their opinion about it.

Here’s a fun fact: Indie authors love to get reviews – even if they aren’t all “five star” ratings. If the reviewer provides a reason for giving a certain rating, it’s all good. We want to know what you honestly think! Receiving constructive feedback leads writers to improve in their craft. Leaving a review that states – briefly and politely – what you most enjoyed and what you didn’t like about the book helps out the author and other potential readers.

On Amazon, twenty words will suffice. You don’t need to write entire paragraphs. But go ahead and churn out an essay if that’s your jam, extolling both the wonders you’ve discovered and the literary snares that tripped you up. People will read your reviews so they know what exactly they’re getting into, and whether the book is worth the financial and temporal investment.

Speaking of reading books …

What I’m Reading

Falcon Heart by Azalea Dabill.

You know what? Last night, I was up for two whole hours past my bedtime reading this book. I just couldn’t put it down. But finally, I stopped reading because I had to work this morning. Needless to say, I’m enjoying this faith-filled historical fantasy so far. Will Kyrin escape captivity and be able to fly away, free as a falcon? At least she’s made some true friends! This adventure has me hooked. I’ll have more to say once I’ve finished it. But if you want to read it for yourself …
