New Year, New Reading Material

In lieu of something interesting to say about the beginning of 2024, I bring you recommendations for reading material. Of course, you can always read Wyldling Snare and Wyldling Trials if you haven’t yet. However, if you’re all caught up with the Wyldling Dream series and would like more fantasy books to read …

Clean Fantasy Books – YA, Epic, Portal, Adventure

Forbidden Reign by Emily Earls (Under His Wings #2)

Are you looking for a fast-paced, Christian fantasy story set in contemporary times with adventure, portals and a strong female main character who struggles with her newfound faith? Well. I just finished an Advance Reader Copy of this wonderful book the other day. I laughed … I cried … Despite the dearth of dragons, I took solace in Pero’s excellent character development, snarky humor, and the heartwarming “found family” trope. There are so many gems to unearth throughout the narrative and the message to rely on God and trust in Him always came through loud and clear! Sound interesting? You’re in luck, because the book came out today! Fair warning: it’s the second in a series, so you might want to read The King’s Feather first. There may not be dragons in this series, but there are giant eagles!

Rescue Mom.
Handle The Prophesied Power.
And Don’t Fall in Love.
Yep. Life on repeat.
Pero Moshe hears a mysterious voice singing from the underground tunnels in the palace of Beijing, and a prophecy says she’s the one to answer the call. But when she does and is trapped in the Forbidden City with Dr. Carper, the journey uncovers more than the truth of her past and not-so-missing parents.
The Chinese government threatens, a charming boyfriend holds his own secrets, and the Lesaries expect Pero to unlock their sanctuary for a long-awaited freedom. All while eating chicken feet.
The problem? Pero doesn’t like chicken feet.
In a desperate fight to restore Elohim’s kingdom, Pero must decide what matters most: saving those she loves, or the ones she’s learning to forgive.

The Fourth Scroll by Karen Grunst (The Sacred Fire Saga # 2)

Coming out January 16, 2024! Here is another excellent fantasy story that upholds Christian values. As you’ve probably noticed, this is also the second book in a series. I highly recommend reading Sacred Fire first, which is available on Kindle Unlimited. This tale is set in another world similar to our own in preindustrial times, and the religion is similar to Christianity as it might have been before the Messiah was born. Normally, I tend to shy away from books heavy on romance while deficient in the dragon department—there aren’t any dragons in this series thus far—but I definitely don’t regret agreeing to be an ARC reader for this book. It’s a sweet romance and I love the world and the characters. I’m eagerly awaiting the third book … I hope there will be another one!

A promised legacy. Looming darkness. Torn between duty and protecting their future, can a faithful young couple keep evil at bay?
Sarah craves acceptance from her new family. But her dreams shatter after discovering the secret she carries makes her a target for bloodthirsty enemies.
Jacob wants nothing more than to fulfill his vows as a priest and loving husband. But when an assassin strikes in the heart of the holy city, his mystical talents fail and his loyalties are questioned.
Faced with escalating peril, Sarah fears standing her ground could doom everything she cherishes. While Jacob despairs he’s forever lost his gift, and can’t prevent history repeating with deadly consequences.
Will an ancient scroll hold the answers they need to escape with their lives?
The Fourth Scroll is the breathtaking second book in The Sacred Fire Saga YA fantasy series. If you like spirited heroines, finding strength in love, and facing down impossible odds, then you’ll adore Karen Grunst’s transformative tale.
