15 Seconds of Fame

Wyldling Snare’s YouTube Cameo

Do you watch anything on YouTube? If so, to which channels do you subscribe? I’m not a frequent viewer, but my husband sure loves YouTube! In his free moments, I often find him watching videos about food preparation, fantasy books and authors, or—when all else fails—role-playing games. Among his favorite YouTubers is Daniel Greene, a.k.a. “the disheveled goblin,” an avid fantasy reader, watcher, and reviewer. I get a kick out of his show and enjoy viewing his videos on occasion—especially when he talks about the Wheel of Time series. Daniel is witty, entertaining, and has interesting insights as a reviewer.

But what does this have to do with the price of tea in the Eastern Marches? Well, twelve days ago Daniel launched a livestream video entitled “Birthday & Kickstarter” and my debut novel makes a brief appearance! Midway through, Daniel and his lovely co-host present a segment called “Please Dear God Don’t Be a Bomb” in which they open packages from his fans and followers. People mail him letters, swag, and books they hope he’ll read or believe he may enjoy. My husband sent him Wyldling Snare and three paperbacks by Kylie Chan. And then, at the 3:23:25 time mark in the video, they opened the package and pulled out my book.

Be still, my heart!

You’ll want to continue watching at least to the 3:27 mark, because Daniel had fun reading aloud the hilarious “letter” my husband wrote to him. The Welch’s fruit snacks we included in the package turned out to be a hit with the hosts, as well. Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkPEKxIBUUM The fan mail segment ends around 3:42:30.

Progress on Wyldling Trials

Almost, but not quite, done. I’m still on track to finish the first draft of book two by the end of this month… this year! Wow, it’s hard to believe 2022 will soon be over and Christmas is just around the corner.

Sometimes I obsess over the structure of the book and “fair” character representation. I forget I’m supposed to be telling a story, and the plot stagnates. This will not do. Something has to give. I finally made a breakthrough with a scene I was struggling with because I let go of my desire for symmetry. God willing, the story continues to flow and will be complete in time to ring in the new year. Wyldling Trials launches on October 20, 2023. It’s already available for pre-order. Yes, this chronic procrastinator is working toward a definite deadline. It’s the only way I could ensure finishing it before a certain hot place froze over.

While you’re waiting for my next book to come out, here are some options for reading material… and they’re FREE if you sign up for the author’s newsletter.
